Sheela, Khanyara, Rakkad were the valid ones considering we had to choose a village with at least two hundred households. We started browsing on the internet about each of them. We found the maximum information on Khanyara and thus it seemed reliable. We found the phone numbers of Kangra District Head Office, of the Dharamshala Block Development Office and even that of the Panchayat Office, from Punjab National Bank (PNB), Khanyara branch which was listed on the PNB site along with a landline number. This said and done, we still had to make sure that the village was near enough from our lodging place(Hotel Kunal) for us to be able to travel to and fro without too much hassle. For that, we would have to wait, as Google Maps and other Online distance estimates were not too consistent in their data. A student of CUHP, Rajesh Badhawan was our direct and the nearest point-of-contact from the time we witnessed our first morning at the Hotel Kunal. We owe a lot to him for the smoothness of our stay and logistical convenience. The first day of our visit was a sort of familiarity-building exercise. We found different ways of travelling; different bus-stops and jeep-stands and also the key market areas for common amenities. Khanyara was about 9 to 10 kilometres from Dharamshala and the travel took 20 to 30 minutes depending on choice of vehicle.enRural Development & problemsstudy by studentsRural Research Project: Khanyara
