Higher education, work opportunities were not much and the embroidery work in the village was almost dead. In their words they say ‘the computers have made the embroidery work dead’. The youth is mostly going for workshop work after completing school. A negligible few go for higher education in Kolkata. There is not much scope for the opposite gender. Islamic conservatism was showing clearly when they spoke how girls are wedded early and preferably after school. Marriages in the village have become more lavish and costly to conduct. Dowry acceptance is still prevalent. People admitted that they would accept an ‘offering’ anywhere between Rs. 1,00,000/- to Rs. 2,00,000/-. Increase in disposable income has possibly led to increased spends in marriage festivities. The marriages are mostly intra village and in remote cases inter villages.
