This wouldn’t have been possible without Mr Sagar Rai, owner of a souvenir shop, who started out as a guide and then became a friend and a mentor for all of us. It is difficult to express how much we value everything he did and the things he taught us during our stay there. We want to also thank Sheetal Rai, Sagar’s brother, and Samir, Sheetal’s friend for all the jovial times, the anecdotes filled with humour and for making us feel at home during our time there. It would have been a hard task to have figured the village out if it wouldn’t have been for the help provided to us by the Block Development Officer Mr N. T. Bhutia and the Rumtek GPU vice-president, Sandhya Sharma. We would also want to thank Sandhya’s father, a teacher at the school, for telling us all the tales that the books wouldn’t tell us. The warmth and hospitality of the teachers at the school, the drivers who took us around Sikkim and Sagar Bhaiya’s family who will stay with us in more ways than one.enRural development & problemsstudy by studentsRural Research Project: Ranka Village
