Rural Immersion Programme: Jaipur Rugs - Social media strategy
(MICA, 2019) Nevatia, Richa; Agrawal, Aarushi; Shridhar, Tanya; Kulhari, Nikhil
An alternative education programme – Hunarshala – is run by Jaipur Rugs Foundation in a village named Aspura about 90 km from the Pink City. Hunarshala aims to provide functional literacy and a holistic development to anyone who wants to and is willing to take out time to invest on themselves. This ‘nishulk’ programme has been in existence for the past two months and has kept on improving ever since, under the guidance of Jaipur Rugs Foundation. Founded in 2004, Jaipur Rugs Foundation (JRF) was created to reach out to remote rural areas and establish bonds with the village communities such that it is able to enable the villagers to start weaving their lives stories in a more beautiful way. They focussed on two areas - ‘Entrepreneurship Development’ and ‘Social Development’. The entrepreneurship development vertical focuses on the economic well-being of the artisans and their communities through skill development and livelihood support, the social development vertical focuses on their social well-being through interventions, awareness generation and linkages. These two complement each other and facilitate the artisans to advance in their development trajectories. Hunarshala comes under the Social Development segment for Jaipur Rugs Foundation. ‘Hunar’ means skill and ‘Shala’ means house, the place lives up to its meaning in all ways. It is an alternative schooling methodology that teaches students art, craft, English, computer software such as Office and Photoshop along with sports activities like Volleyball, Chess and Frisbee.
