Rural research project : Jaipur Rugs
(MICA, 2017) Daniel, Sinu; Zainab D.; Samant, Siddharth; Anand, Abhigyaan
With the addition of Ms. Kavita Chaudhary to the Jaipur Rugs team, the organisation took a strong step into the luxury segment with the introduction of Artisan Originals , a rug wholly designed and imagined by rural artisans without the help of maps and color sketches. Ms. Kavita Chaudhary realised the potential of art in these artisans and gave a select few talented individuals the freedom to make their own Jaipur Rug, all from their own imagination and creativity. The process of creating Artisan Originals was a carefully taken strategic decision taken by first identifying the market need for these original designs and then identifying individuals who stood out in terms of 2 creativity and art. Sketching and coloring sessions were organised with the weavers to understand their concept of art and identify these set of individuals. Eventually these artisans were given the freedom to independently create their own rugs off their own mind and creativity.
