(MICA, 2015) Randev, Aditi; Kalia, Neha; Arneja, Mehr; Singh, Roshni
MICA and the Rural research program truly gave us our first opportunity of understand the rural market, and the learning have left us spellbound. The research began on 20th September, 2015 and was conducted in the village of Badgran, Kullu District, Himachal Pradesh. In the research we tried to understand the aspirations of youth village in terms of education, social well being and recreational, to accomplish this objective we tried to study their awareness about various brands and their consumption patterns, also how aware are they about the career options available. We also tried to study their media consumption and the distribution channels adopted by various brands (local and national) to serve these markets. The focus of the research however, was to understand the youth of the village, their lives and socio-economic problems faced by them. This was done so as to be able to assess the real needs of the villagers, decide on whether or not it is a communications problem at all and then come up with a communications strategy to solve the problem. This research report documents the work done by the team.
