    Rural Research Project: Mangoli
(MICA, 2014) Jain, Ashita; Bhatia, Apoorva; Dhingra, Sonal
Mangoli village is located around 20 km from the city of Nainital. As a part of the rural research project, we spent ten days in the village with the help of the Gram Pradhan of Khurpatal, Mr Manmohan Singh Kanwal who connected us to the Gram Pradhan of Mangoli, Mr Harendra Singh. The research included the ethnographic study of the village. A communication need assessment was also carried out by us towards the end. The achieve this objective we tried to understand the various aspects of the village ranging from factual details such as population, size, number of households etc. to finer intangible and unmeasurable aspects such as inferences drawn on the caste structure, religious diversity, social norms and the ethnography in general. We also collected information on the social structure, village‟s economy, mass media diffusion and the consumption of durables and non-durables. To gather all this information, we employed both primary as well as secondary research. This helped us know the lives of inhabitants of Mangoli village better.
