RaoItem Rural research project : Gujarat forest, Kevdi(MICA, 2017) Jain, Rhea; Gautam, Megha; Dugar, Tilak; Bhinda, ApurvaThe organization that we were aligned with is Gujarat Forest, i.e. the forest department of the Government of Gujarat. We were specifically dealing with their Chota Udepur office. There were three locations, Panchamahal, Dungadwad and Kevadi, three different groups from MICA visited these three locations. Group N0. 25 was sent to the Kevadi location. Kevadi is a small village that comes under the Vododra district, Chota Udepur Taluka. The population of the village is around 1500 people; the village has a school which admits students up to 10th grade and a functioning Aanganwaadi which receives its share of food from the Government as per requirement. The village along with other small villages around it like Kakadkund, Meethibhori, Jhoonj is situated alongside a jungle and there is one single road that connects all these villages. The houses in the village of Kevadi are very scattered, they live together as a community but there is some distance in their houses. The major occupation for the people living in these villages is farming and migration to cities for labour work. The crops that they grow the most are corn, rice and wheat. They also grow a lot of vegetables for their own use only.
