Khadi and Village Industries Commission - Gondal
(MICA, 2023) Dhruv, Veda; Bhosale, Nikhil; Deshpande,Roshani; S H, Sanjayprasad; Chitre, Sanjyot; Desai, Shachee
Khadi is a hand spun and hand woven cloth made from natural fibers like cotton, wool or silk. It is also known as khaddar. It is very comfortable to wear as it keeps the wearer warm during winters and cool during the summers. The Udyog Bharti organization in Gondal is famous for its Polyvastra or P1 khadi. This is an experiment of making a hand spun and hand woven cloth from a mix of cotton and polyester. Polyvastra has a blend of 67% and 33% polyester and cotton. The advantage of this is that P1 khadi is comparatively less expensive and affordable to the common man. However, it does not fall in the conventional definition of khadi. The same is true for Green Khadi, which is spun and woven using solar energy instead of by hand.
