Operational Plan for Gharonj FPO as 'Solar Entrepreneur' International Water Management Institute (Iwmi)
(MICA, 2025) Singh, Ajit; Guha, Anwesha; Samal, Binayak; Jain, Priyanshu; Singh, Shourya; Deb, Srijani
The Solar Energy for Rural Livelihoods (SE4RL) project is a collaborative initiative led by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) with support from Tata Steel Foundation and Collective Integrated for Natural Livelihood Initiative (CINI) under the PM-KUSUM Yojna. This project aims to boost agricultural productivity and economic resilience in Kuiyani village, Jharkhand, by transitioning farmers to solar-powered irrigation and storage solutions. IWMI brings expertise in water resource management and sustainable energy, making solar a viable and environmentally friendly alternative to diesel pumps, which have traditionally powered irrigation but come with high costs and environmental downsides. The communication strategy for SE4RL focuses on three main pillars: highlighting economic benefits, showcasing social empowerment, and promoting environmental sustainability. Each pillar is tailored to engage the community, drive adoption, and ensure long-term impact.
