The farmers practice crop rotation. Apricot, peach, pear and apple are some of the important fruits grown in the village and sale of these in Indian and international markets contribute a major part to the revenues earned through agriculture. The area is rich in cash crops with ‘Potato’ being the source of livelihood of many a farmer. It also grows pulses that include ‘Bhatt’ – a local pulse. There is scope to market this pulse to other parts of the country and make economic sense out of it. In spite of this, the soil is not very fertile and the output is not satisfactory with cases of 30% of standard production happening. Problem of a pest called ‘Kurmula’ has become a nuisance for the farmers as it eats into any crop and various pesticides used have proven to be ineffective so far. Animals like porcupine and hare are also big threat to the cash crops grown here. . The crop is also harmed by snowfall and hailstorm in the months of December, January and February. Irregular rains over the years have contributed to the decrease in agriculture production. There seems great future in floriculture with the market being present nearby in ‘Mukteshwar’ and also in ‘Nainital’. There is a definite need for awareness and education of latest methods of agriculture and use of better quality seeds, fertilizers and pesticides. The use of the land in pieces by different farmers also leads to the wastage of land.
