Land Acquisition means acquirement of land for some public purpose by government or a government organization, as authorised by the law, from the individual property-owner after paying compensation fixed by government, in lieu of losses incurred by land owner due to conceding his land to the government agency. Land acquisition is a sensitive and controversial issue and the costs of such an exercise include displacement of farmers. Farm worker families, who are dependent upon their farms for their livelihoods, get displaced. Loss of income to the farming and the farm worker families, degradation of local rural economies are the other unfavourable effects of land acquisition.
