(MICA, 2024) Sarkar, Mandrika; Karkhanis, Sai; Kulkarni, Shruti; Lambat, Swati; Maskar, Vedha; Vaswani, L. K.; Patel, Palak
The Rural Immersion journey brought us to the vibrant heartland of Gujarat, India, with the distinct purpose of comprehending the inner workings of the Self Employed Women's Association, widely known as SEWA, situated in Anand. SEWA stands apart due to its unique characteristic of being entirely managed and operated by women, for women with a central mission of empowering the women it serves. Our endeavor was to immerse ourselves in the intricate operations of SEWA, engage with the individuals who drive its transformative initiatives, and cultivate a profound understanding of life in Anand and its surrounding villages. Our research involved in-depth conversations and interviews with a diverse array of stakeholders, affording us the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of their daily existence, identify the various challenges they confront, and subsequently propose pragmatic solutions. This report offers a thorough insight into the incredible women who constitute SEWA, the transformative influence the organization exerts on the socio-economic landscape of the region, and the enlightening journey through Anand and its satellite villages.
