    Rural Immersion Programme: Sewa

    This study employed a qualitative approach to address the research objectives that were exploratory in nature. Since the homestays, which needed to to marketed, were in Vadu, Arsodia and Navapura, we conducted the research on those locations. To meet the objectives, the framework used was ethnography and the methods employed for the study were in-depth interviews and observation. Ethnography, which is based on participant-observation, helped analyze the culture and society better. The method, in depth interviews, entailed the respondents in a relatively personal/ intimate setting which helped decipher their sub- conscious mind and express their emotions (Pawle & Cooper, 2006). Such associations are difficult to obtain through a survey or close-ended quantitative study (Forlearn, 2015). Therefore, this method helped us understand the perceptions, challenges and benefits of homestays. Whereas, observations method was used to understand the village ethos.
