Rural Research Projcet: “Mapping The Need Gaps In The Life Skills And Aspirations of College Students
(MICA, 2018) Sharma, Ananya; Ghosh, Aniruddho; Kumar, Gaurav; Potdar, Sankalp
Interact with existing college students to gauge the “needs they felt towards acquiring certain soft skills beyond syllabus which would help them bag a good job and sustain it”. Map the needs beyond formal technical education. For an exhaustive primary research, the plan is to understand the participants within their college environment as well as in groups. Conducting personal interviews is imperative to gauge individual aspiration and extrapolate it to a larger group of students. Following are the suggested approaches for the same. For Students: Understanding their economic condition, upbringing, needs and obstacles in pursuing their interests and passions. Exploring their perceptions and ideas about their future and how they plan to achieve it. It will also help us provide context to the data collected in the process and gauge if our observations are in line with their opinions and views when taken in a relaxed environment. For Faculty: To understand the parity between the students’ views, opinions and thoughts and the reality of the situation. Gain an outsiders (but a part of the ecosystem) perspective into the lives of the students and their actions. The initiatives taken by the college to assist the students with their holistic development. (A separate questionnaire will be designed for the faculty to gauge their perspective of the need-gaps.) Mix of sample – To be decided based on the data of colleges provided by Swades
