    Rural Research Project: Lohna village
(MICA, 2013) Lukose, Kris Thomas; Prem, Soumya; Wanvari, Varun T.
While in the field for the rural research project, we were expected to do two things. The first was to write the ethnography of the village with emphasis on media. Secondly, we were to conduct a communication needs assessment in any one of the areas we find striking in the village where we think the village needed communication intervention. This basically meant that we had to identify a communication need gap regarding any important issue in the village and find a way to plug this gap by devising a communication plan that will benefit the community. The village Lohna is under the BlockLamgara. The Panchayat acts as the governing body and is headed by the Sarpanch, known as the Pradhan of the village. Mrs.Rupa Devi is the Pradhan of the village. The Panchayat premises doubles as the Primary School as well. The Panchayat meets twice a month, generally on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. It receives its Government funding from the Block. The people of the state primarily speak in the Pahari language, while the state has declared Hindi to be the official language and also centered the academic curriculum around Hindi. Owing to the close proximity of the district to the state of Punjab, the use of Punjabi as a language of communication is also popular.
