Rural research project : Employment Scenario in Khadi - Optimal Wage and lifestyle KVIC, Gujarat
(MICA, 2017) Gupta, Animesh; Satya, Nitika; Sagar; Seth, Vatsal
Ashok Bhai - Involved in dyeing, father of two daughters, one son Age: around 50 years Village: Vadhwaan His family is the only one in Surendranagar district which is involved in dyeing. The process of dyeing procurement is not standardized. He does the payment to colour market 15 to 30 day after he receives the payment from KVIC. He prefers to take care of procurement himself as he can negotiate the quality. His wife does bandhni work. However he has not taken it professionally as there is a competitive barrier entry and also there is ancestral history of dyeing. His daughters have done B.Sc(IT) and B.Com respectively. One of them is working in Surendranagar. He considers dyeing profession to be the least preferred option for his children. He is willing to dye for private companies but hasn’t got an opportunity so far. But for the transportation cost, he would have expanded to other cities. He is not aware of any scheme by KVIC specifically for dyers. He faced a loss equivalent of three months in the last season.
