Aratiben’s SHG lends money to the members and non-members alike based on the need/ u rgency (lent it to two women to buy a computer, lent a small loan to a local man whose business had taken a major hit due to the lockdown etc.), whereas Bhavnaben’s SHG lends only to the members of the group. During the COVID lockdown period, Bhavnaben’s group produced masks (with the training and the material provided by AKRSPI) and the profits were split between the members of the group. Though her group currently doesn’t have any other business plans. On the other hand, Aratiben’s group has brought a machine for making the cotton wicks for the diyas (small earthen lamps). However, they are still waiting for the construction of the small building where the women will be able to meet and work on this (they expect it to be ready by November end- December). They plan to use the best quality of cotton, and also do the packaging of these themselves, and selling them under the name of the group- splitting the profit ten-ways.
