(MICA, 2024) Gupta, Aakanksha; Mahajan, Madhur; Somaiya, Manav; Choudhary, Tithi; Sharma, Priyasha; Agarwala, Sarthak; Mishra, Banikanta; Vankar, Navinchandra
Upon completion of our field visits and interviews, we found that there is a lack of trust between the villagers and banks. Though some villagers have organised themselves in Mandalis (Kisaan and Mahila SHGs), they are unable to have a smooth financial experience due to animosity between the parties as well as a lack of knowledge and awareness. Banks are sceptical about providing loans and believe that most villagers default. Villagers feel that they have a lack of access to loans, especially when they are not a farmer or have a stable income. Hence, awareness and accessibility both were seen as key issues that the villagers faced. The same will be explained in further detail ahead.
