Item Branding of Charoli and Custard Apple, Processing & Marketing plan with Effective Supply Chain Management(MICA, 2017) Singh, Upender; Adhikari, Ritura; Ramakrishnan, Shreya; Chakraborty, SnehelBordha is a remote village located in Pavijeptur range of Chhotaudepur Dn. The main occupation of villagers is farming and agricultural labour. Buchnania lanzan (Chironji) collection is an important Minor Forest Produce (MFP) collection for this & surrounding villages. As per the census carried out by Forest Department in 2010 there are 36,613 trees of Charoli in Chhotaudepur range and 6300 trees approx. in Pavijetpur range of Chhotaudepur Dn. Earlier decortications of Chironji seeds were carried out manually which was time consuming and not getting enough money for the same. There was a barter system for Charoli selling, the villagers would sell 1 bowl of Charoli in return they will get 4-5 bowls of grains from the Vohras which would hardly cost of Rs.100-200. In the year 2011 there were 6 villages involved in collection and net output of Custard apple was 13 tones. The fruit was sold to traders or at a local market. Many a times the fruit used to rot due to over ripening and no market linkages. JFMC members used to get price of Rs. 4 -5 per kg. with this amount it was difficult to meet the labour cost involved in plucking Custard apple. The villagers were not trained in collection or grading the fruit. The market linkage existed only up to Chhota Udepur and middlemen traders.
