Abstract

The Panchayat is responsible for implementing all the Govt. policies in the village and ensuring smooth running of the village. They are also required to keep a tab on the implementation of Govt. schemes by other organizations- such as schools and anganwaadi. They are also required to oversee the construction of roads and public infrastructure in the area. However, the Panchayat has been highly ineffective since the last election. Both the Sarpanch and Upsarpanch are women, selected on the basis of quoto for Women Sarpanch. They were elected, not for their credibility, but because their husbands were deemed suitable for the job by the villagers. Unfortunately, neither the appointed Sarpanch, Smt. Nirmala Varma, nor her husband have taken interest in the Panchayat proceedings, because of which most of the work has come to a halt. Since for the allotment of funds, both the Gram Sachiv’s and Sarpanch’s signatures are required, no new projects have been initiated.
