Rural Immersion project :Vatsalya Foundation -Creating awareness modules for menstrual hygiene

Abstract

It was undertaken with the help of telephonic interviews and video call interactions. Through the course of the project, the group interacted with Vatsalya representatives, Swati madam and Vidushi madam. Additionally, several interactions with the ground representative Anita ben and Sakhi volunteers over Zoom call helped in gaining insights around existing frameworks used by Vatsalya, behaviour or response of rural community to the communication offered by Vatsalya under Sakhi initiative. Through these conversations, respondents were probed through open ended questions to understand existing social structure, hierarchy in rural communities, behaviour pattern, key opinion leaders and factors of influence. The group understood the operations of Sakhi program by studying the digital assets, awareness programs and manufacturing operations of biodegradable Sakhi pads. Group members also discussed menstruation with women in their social circles to understand the challenges, apprehensions and their general behaviour around periods.
