The Tota Rani Village is a basically a cluster of 60-65 houses on one side of the hill down Tota Rani School. The families staying in these houses are generally Gorkhas. They are associated to each other in some way or the other as all have their ancestral roots from Nepal. The village of Tota Rani is quite popular because of residence of one of the famous regional poet ShriMitrasen. The primary school of Tota Rani is named only after him. The village has the families which have served Indian Army at one point of time. The village culture comprises primarily of celebrating festivals together be it Diwali, Dusshhera or Shivratri. They follow a common temple of Shivji near Dal Lake for their religious rituals. There is no specific religious idol for the village. The people follow their own deity.
