| dc.description.sponsorship | The ongoing efforts by Vatsalya Foundation have been quite successful in achieving awareness on the topic. The project undertaken is with the prime objective to design and administer a campaign about the Sakhi biodegradable sanitary napkins and weaving a story around e Rural women along with the greater impact on the environmental and societal levels.A pioneer in these efforts is Ms. Swati Bedeker. She saw that because of the monthly cycle, girls missed five to six days of school each month and understood the significance of boosting period awareness. She took use of the existing Sakhi Mandals (Self-Help Groups) to start a business where the women members would make low-cost sanitary pads (based on the model set up by Arunachalam Muruganantham of Coimbatore). The Sakhi Pads are an important endeavour in this direction. These are feminine hygiene products made by and for women. This initiative's goal is to provide an all-round solution to the problem | |
