Abstract

Gavi lies in the district of Pathanamthitta .Sharing its border with Tamil Nadu in the east, Pathanamthitta is a district in the southern part of Kerala formed on 1st November 1982. Receiving an abundance of pilgrim footfalls, this district is known as the “headquarters of pilgrimage tourism in India”. Two Malayalam words “prathanam” and “thitta” form the name of the district Pathanamthitta which together mean an array of houses on the river side. The district capital lies in the town of Pathanamthitta. After the Pandyas, the district came under the Travancore administration in 1820.The district is divided into and It also boasts of being the first ever Indian district to be “polio free”.Out of the 14 districts that Kerala has,it happens to be the least populous one with a total population of 11,95,537 according to 2011 census.
