Rural Immersion Project – Area: Kishorpura, District: Sikar, State: Rajasthan
The Project brief was to work at the grassroot level and understand how the lives of the artisans can be improved. Jaipur Rugs is associated with over 10,000 artisans and the network is only growing everyday. They take it as their responsibility to ensure that the artisans not only create exemplary work, their lives are changed and the quality of life is bettered. Their philosophy is that if the weaver is not making progress, the organisation is not progress. For Jaipur Rugs, the most important stakeholder is the weaver community. This is why Jaipur Rugs has been instrumental in eliminating the middleman and directly managing the weavers as it realised that the middleman was responsible for a lot of exploitation and suffering of the weavers.
