Rural Immersion project : Blind People Association

Abstract

The team started this project with a myopic view of rural life and its socio-cultural buildup, and nearly dismissed the political and legal aspects that came hand-in-hand with the project. Our vision was extremely short-sighted - rather than working backwards after collecting all the relevant information across these various spheres and keeping them in mind, we started off with predispositions regarding the research topic, its rural setting, and our confidence in our knowledge regarding the same - and started off with generic suggestions that we had in our minds, such as increasing social media visibility, increasing funding, etc. However, once the actual research began and we realized the on-ground realities of the operations, funding and administration of the centre, we realized our task was (understandably) not as simple as we had envisaged. Our approach was to identify pain points for both the centre itself, as well as its members, students and their parents, in order to optimize its effect.
