Gujarat forest development, Promotion of Eco-Tourism, Dairy Development and Vegetable Cultivation

Abstract

The concept of Dairy is old but was confined to a very few places in Gujarat villages. All ladies SHG formed multiple dairies in and around Godhra region with the help of JICA members. It is estimated that 250+ Liters of milk is given daily to Panchmahal dairy from Kaliya Kuva. Dairy earns little profit over the sample of milk taken from customers to calculate FAT percentage. JFMC Mandli also cut 1,80,000 Kg of grass, out of which 90,000 Kg cattle grass was kept for village cattle under the agreement. Vegetable Cultivation is another project we worked on. This is the main source of income generation and livelihood for the most part of the villages. The main problem is that the cultivation is seasonal. Crops are grown for 3-4 months only and used for the entire year for sustenance. Grains are sold only when fresh crop from next season is harvested. This project was done under the guidance of Himani Shah from Gujarat Forest Department, Vadodara who was our POC throughout the project. We were reporting to Dr. Anshuman, IFS, DCF, Godhra and Mr. Khardi when we were in Panchmahal District doing our Field Visits to different villages.
