Abstract

The project brief was to create weaver story booklet which can be used to show the interesting parts of the lives of weavers and bunker sakhi’s to the world. The requirement was to provide the Jaipur Rugs team with interesting ways to tell the stories in the form of a booklet or some other form which would enable them to showcase the stories behind the rugs that are made by these weavers. We had to understand the lives of these weavers and how their simple yet eventful lives can be best presented in the form of a booklet. Through the stories we also had to focus on the core competency of the weavers that can be used in a campaign highlighting their lives. Alongside the main project brief, the common requirement was to provide the team with content that they can use for their social media and other channels. The content could be images, videos, review on different sites. Through the project brief, it was abundantly clear that we had to use ethnography and qualitative research as a tool to get as many stories from the weaver community as possible. Since our project brief required purely qualitative research, the sole aim of our stay in Tatera was to find weavers and their families and talk to them about their experiences over the years and how weaving as a profession has changed the economic, social and cultural landscape of the village.
