Abstract
Vatsalya meaning Parental Love, was established in 1982 by the students of College of Social Work, Nirmala Niketan who came across street children at the railway stations, Marine Drive and near Bombay Hospital. The Vatsalya
Foundation was initiated as a field action project of the College.
Vatsalya visualizes a world, which provides every child with an enabling environment to develop to the fullest potential as an individual, without any discrimination, and ensuring his/her basic rights.
Vatsalya Foundation has trained 100 potter families to make sanitary napkin disposal units. Apart from the time they make diyas and pots, they can utilize the remaining time they have and it is to address this very problem that
Vatsalya trained them to build the units. Vatsalya Foundation focuses on menstrual hygiene of underprivileged girls. There are also various taboos associated with this natural phenomenon. Moreover, there is also a big-time
hygiene problem.
