Abstract
Kibber is one of the highest villages in India. It has a motor-able road approaching it, and is perhaps surrounded by some of the most fertile areas of the Spiti valley. Hence it is like an oasis in the middle of barren landscape. In order to understand Kibber and its people, one must understand the land they live in. Rudyard Kipling called Spiti 'a world within a world'. It is surrounded by rocky mountains which are carved by the forces of wind and water through out the years.. The people have learnt to live a balanced life and co-exist with these giants of mountains. As an outsider we were awestruck by the hard life that the people live every day, but slowly we came to understand the harmony and purity of the people. These people are indigenous to this place and it is reach in cultural Buddhist heritage. The vastness of the landscape is awe-inspiring and the night sky is beyond mere words. Our stay in Kibber helped us understand how this ancient culture has survived and still continues to live a traditional lifestyle following their laws and way of life.
