Samvedana Foundation, Gourp 5

Abstract

We had two meetings with the head of Samavedana foundation, along with the headmaster of the school. First, we were given a bird’s eye view of what the organization did and the various verticals under which it functioned. In these meetings, we tried to get a broad understanding of what the brief was. The head of Samavedana foundation, Janaki Ma’am, had already outlined some issues they were facing. However, there was a major gap in understanding the day-to-day activities of the teachers and students and the main problems that needed to be addressed. She also helped us understand more about the background of the student’s homes and parents. Different castes and communities in the village had different attitudes towards schooling and education. On top of that, the literacy of the parents played a huge role in how seriously the parents took their child’s education. We also got to know the mode of communication with parents was mainly WhatsApp. This gave us an idea of ensuring that our solutions would be oriented with this medium in mind. With their help, we outlined the broad problem areas. This included speaking in English at school, dropouts in preference of Gujrati medium schools and involvement of parents in the child's education.
