Abstract
Research Design- We observed that local handicraft items had good sales opportunities locally which made us interested in the forms of handicrafts that were locally manufactured by villagers nearby. With the general interest that was shown by tourists, including us in buying items such as these, it suggested that it could serve as an alternate source of income. We enquired about the sourcing of these materials and interviewed a few local shop owners. We got a list of villages where this kind of work was going on already and based our choice of the village on the working hypothesis that if there was no extensive distribution network already established, there must be reasons why. The focus, then was going to be on finding the underlying reasons.
Research Methodology- Our research methodology was qualitative in nature. The following data collection methods were used-Focus Group Discussions- We conducted two focused group discussions among men and women aged 18-40 in order to find out value systems and differentiate among them.
