The center assigned to us was 'Khushio nu Sarnamu' in the community of Deesa, located in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat. The center is primarily a daycare center for children with intellectual disabilities and provides an educational as well as vocational curriculum for such children. In addition, the center also has vocational units like a sewing machine and computer lab for adults to receive training in those vocations. We were given a tour of the resource center, where we observed the curriculum, the children, their learning methods, the computer & vocational center, physiotherapy center, psychiatrist office, & general play area. Our project entailed understanding the organization's pain points in terms of communication and engagement with the Deesa community at large. The work done inside the 4 walls of the center was not getting the publicity it needed in order to attract more support and more PwDs to register in the center. The pamphlets and messaging used were as old as the center, which started 5 years ago in 2017. The center required a new set of communication designed to generate more impact in the local community as well as act as a medium to attract new financial benefactors.
