dc.description.abstractWe were assigned two projects that we were supposed to work on in the district of Banaskantha, Gujarat. Project 1 - Take Home Ration is a system facilitated by UNICEF in Gujarat to provide food packets to children, adolescent girls and pregnant and lactating mothers to be distributed from Anganwadi centres. Project 2 - Complementary Feeding where we had to understand behavioural patterns of mothers when it comes to breastfeeding and food intake of a new born child. Anganwadi Helper/Worker - The Anganwadi Helpers are not aware of the exact details about the THR packets. They maintain that they follow the orders given by the Anganwadi Worker. They don’t know the differentiation between the different kinds of THR packets. - All the children that belong to that Anganwadi territory have their names registered. - Books and toys have been supplied but they haven’t been used or distributed (especially the books because most children can’t read or write). - The children who come are weighed at regular intervals. For instance, in one Anganwadi center, the children are weighed on the second Tuesday of every month. - Even though the center is equipped with lights and fans and weighing machines, there is no electricity supply so it renders all the above mentioned equipments useless. -One Anganwadi center has no helper and only one woman, the Anganwadi Worker, does everything.
