Abstract

Divrala is sparsely populated with the sex ratio is said to be male centric. Yet we encountered more females. A lot of the men are into government service, skilled and semi-skilled labour. The weavers here work in about 10-12 looms for about 8 odd hours, including a 1 hour break in the afternoon. They work until 6 pm and can’t proceed due to lack of light. People don’t step out after sunset because of lack of street light. The village also faces improper sewage system and garbage disposal. Divrala is a small tight knit community that believes in warm hospitality. In many of the houses, we saw women working primarily with Jaipur Rugs being a fixed source of income whereas the men had a more seasonality in their jobs. For some strange reason, all students are in the 12th grade.
