Rural Immersion Project – Village : Dhanori, District: Navsari, State: Gujarat
The lifestyle of the villagers varied hugely based on the caste and demographics. The upper caste families led a close-to-urban lifestyle. The richest land-holding farmers, called Shreeman Khedut (holding more than 3.45 bighas of land), had well-furnished homes. There were around 10-15 such rich farmers in Dhanori. The other upper-caste land-owners possessed lesser lands but still had an almost similar lifestyle. Most of these homes contained television sets with set-top boxes, refrigerators (single-door), DVD players, water purifiers etc. Almost every family member owned a mobile phone. The head of the family and the sons possessed smart phones while the woman of the house had bar phones only. Some of these families also owned cars.
