Rural Immersion Project – Village : Choj, District: Kullu, State: Himachal Pradesh
Choj is a hamlet situated at 10 minutes walk from Kasol. There is only a bridge, which connects Choj with Kasol. The language used by the locals is either Kulvi or Hindi. The region is so dynamic that a different language is used every 30kms though almost 60% of it is similar. Choj comes under panchayat of Manikaran. The state of education in Choj is not very laudable. There is only one primary school till class 5. Beyond that, students have to attend secondary school in Jari, which is 9 kilometers away from Choj. Parents are keen and want to educate their children but unavailability of schools in Choj leads to most students dropping out after completion of matriculation. Girls are given an equal opportunity at education and there is no discrimination on basis of gender. There is Government College in Kullu attended by hardly 15-20% students of Choj. The following pie chart explains the literacy status as per the data obtained from Panchayat.
