Rural Research Projcet: Gujarat Forest

Abstract

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF& CC) fixes and monitors the afforestation targets and achievements under 20 Point in the country, done under various centrally sponsored schemes/programmes as well as State Plan and Non Plan Schemes. National Afforestation Programme (NAP) implemented by MoEF& CC for eco restoration of degraded forests through 42,000 Joint Forest Management Committee at the village level, Forest Development Agencies at district level and State Forest Development Agencies at the State level. During the last three years, Rs.397.29 crores have been released with a targeted afforestation of 1,12,780 hectare area, under the NAP. Total employment generated is 293 lakh man days. The site is rich in biodiversity. Sloth bear, panther, hyena, giant flying squirrel are often sighted at the site. The nearby tribal communities depend heavily on forests and forestry activities. It is developed as an eco-tourism site due to the feel that it provides of rich forests and biodiversity. The main attraction of the campsite is the flying squirrel which can be spotted in the evening and the sloth bears.
