Rural Immersion Project – Village : Markhai, District: Ferozepur, State: Punjab
Markhai is a village located in the tehsil of Zira, in the district of Firozpur, in the state of Punjab. The village has a very interesting history. Years before, this whole area was a jungle. The great grandmother of the headmaster became a widow and it was necessary to take a final call for the land, by Taseel Khan who was a Muslim. But he denied to give the land to the widow. The few men from the village then went to Jalandhar where Taseel Khan used to live and killed him and finally the land was given back to the widow. This land then slowly evolved to become the Markhai village. Markhai is located at 30.75° latitude and 76.78° longitude. The residential area in the village is 400 acres. The nearby villages are Kassona (3 km), Wakilan Wala (5 km), Maroor (4 km), Gogoani (5 km) and Chuchakwind (3 km). Ghall Khurd Tehsil towards the South, Firozepur Tehsil towards West, Makhu Tehsil towards North and Kot-Ise-Khan Tehsil towards surrounds Markhai
