Abstract

The Dahej SEZ area was set up by purchasing the agricultural land in the area from the villagers. Due to this the people in the nearby villages feel entitled to receiving favours and help from these companies. Thus the CSR Unit – Adani Foundation has a very important role to play in maintaining and fostering healthy relationships with the surrounding villages. They work primarily with 8 villages in the nearby area namely, Lakhigam, Navinagri, Luwara, Jageshwar, Ambheta, Dahej, Jholva and Suva. The CSR Unit has 4 major divisions – Education, Healthcare Rural Infrastructure and Livelihood under which they have initiated multiple programs to improve the lives of the villagers. Under Education, they have tied up with the Vidyabharti Foundation and identified students in class 6, 7 and 8 who have been promoted but don’t really know to how read and write the language. They are now providing extra remedial classes to these students. Under Healthcare, the Suposhan program educates women about malnutrition and anemia and how to protect their children from it. They also have a medical van which visits each village twice a week to provide vaccination and basic healthcare services. Every alternate Saturday, Adani Foundation organizes awareness camps in the villages to spread education about different healthy practices.
