Abstract

Manpura is famous for the leather industry and weaving has approximately 125 weavers with 42 looms. People of Manpura know about weaving (history of 40-50 years) and men prefer women to engage in weaving as it comes with additional benefits in comparison with other professions. During the course of our project, we were able to interact with the members of every hierarchy involved with Jaipur Rugs at village Manpura. The roles of the members are very clearly defined and the employees/stakeholders are accountable to their immediate heads. We were also able to interact with the villagers involved in other professions as well so as to know their perspective about Jaipur Rugs and weaving. To serve as a social innovator promoting the cause of artisans by providing them with decent work opportunities and lead them towards their socio-economic well-being.
