Rural Immersion Project – Village : Nataliya, District: Junagadh, State: Gujarat
The main objective of our research at Nataliya was to gain an accurate understanding about the village, its functioning, the villagers and their lives. We wanted to familiarize ourselves with what it is like to be from and live in the village called Nataliya and gain new insights. For this, we adopted the following research methodology. Before proceeding for our visit to Nataliya, we wanted to be prepared with some basic information about the location of the place, the people, their lifestyles and culture to set perspective. We searched the internet, read books and spoke to people from the Gujarat Forest Department. This helped us gain clarity about what has to be found out and eventually led to better structuring and effective execution of our research. The noteworthy point in this research was to ensure that the interviews are conducted in conversational mode. Alienating the target group and forcefully asking questions would have led to untrue answers and insights, and thus utmost care was taken to ensure as much of an ethnographic approach as time and other constraints permitted.
