Abstract

Parra is a village in Bardez sub-district, North Goa, India. A resident of Parra is called "Porrikar". It is close to the town of Mapusa and the villages of Saligao /Calangute / Assagaon/Anjuna/Vagator. Land area wise Parra is quite vast but most of it is agricultural land with pockets of residential land. It is also quite close to Panjim city, the capital of Goa. We, along with Prakash, took off for the village on our scooters. Parra Village is around 7 km away from Mapusa city and is around 2 km off the main highway. Parra is a village lush with paddy fields and a fertile hill along the periphery. But its proximity to the tourism hotspots of Calangute and Anjuna has left it with a problem that's largely illegal-the filling up of low-lying, predominantly agricultural lands for residential and commercial projects.
