Abstract
The NGO has also provided them training for growing bamboo shoots and cultivating mushrooms, planting of haldi, packaging of daals and masalas and so on. They don’t have a concrete business plan in place; they are waiting for more capital and more such training workshops so that all 20 members can participate actively, given time and literacy constraints. As of now, haldi has been planted and grown enough for self-consumption only, on a trial basis.
As per Mrs. Kusum Pawar, one of the members; the advantages of the group are that they don’t have to depend on money lenders or outsiders, it gives them a sense of confidence and belongingness, they deal with the bank on their own, take out time for their 2-3 hours monthly meetings where they get opportunities to interact and bond with fellow women and discuss household chores and issues. They want to become independent with time and generate alternative sources of incomes to support their families.
