dc.description.abstractBarkali is a small village with population of about 2,101 living in 342 houses spread across the area of 321 hectares. The male female ratio in the village is 1107:994; out of the population of 2,101 there are about 607 people of scheduled caste community living in the village. According to the census of India report (Census Of India) there should be 2 primary schools and one middle school in the village but in reality when we visited the village we found that there is only one primary school and one middle school in the village. There is no secondary school available in the village funded by government but some of the villagers who are financially strong has started a trust and opened a secondary school with a very minimal fee of Rs.100 for 6 months. Even if a student is not able to pay the fee some other people who are financially strong pays fee for him. We got the chance to interact with an extremely inspiring principle of that school who is working there at a salary of just Rs.5000 per month. We have shared that experience in the later section of the report. After passing the 12th standard from the village most of the girl child enrolled them in the city college which is within the range of 10 km from the village.
