Rural Immersion Project – Village : Andosh, District: Aligarh, State: Uttar Pradesh
As major part of Andosh is still dependant on rainwater so we have done weather profiling to understand the environment. The summers are hot and scalding with temperatures easily climbing up to 40 degrees Celsius. It is so hot that working in the fields is almost impossible in the noon time and the villagers wake up earlier than usual in the mornings and make use of the longer evenings to work in the fields and enjoy a nap in the afternoon after their meals. Villagers say that they survive the summers by consuming lots of curd in various forms like “chaas” and in taking sherbets like “khus”. The winters are very cold and since it gets dark early, the afternoon rest has to be compromised. A typical winter evening will see bonfires in all the “aangan” and people enjoying the warmth emanating from the bonfires.
