Very few movies in India are both, critically and commercially acclaimed. What makes some even more unique is that it is the real cinema- free of the glitz and glamor generally associated with Bollywood. Manish Mundra is the CEO of Drishyam Films, which was behind the movie Masaan. He talks about the economics of Indie film making in India. Manish Mundra is an Indian film producer, philanthropist, and businessman. He is the founder and head of Drishyam Films, and Managing Director of Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited, a group company of Indorama, a multi-billion dollar petrochemical firm headquartered in Nigeria. He has produced several films, such as Ankhon Dekhi, Masaan, Umrika and Dhanak, most of which have received widespread critical acclaim and have won laurels in several prestigious national and international film festivals as well. Two others - Waiting by Anu Menon and X, a collaboration of 11 directors - are under production. Manish is also known for establishing the Drishyam–Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab for aspiring Indian screenwriters. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
