Your identity is upon you to define | Alex Mathew | TEDxMICA | Alex Mathew (Maya) | TEDxMICA
    (TEDxTalks, 2019-05-08) Alex Mathew (Maya)
"It starts with a dream. And if you focus on it, you will achieve it." Inspired by Robin Williams' Mrs. Doubtfire, Alex narrates how a lover of Theatre chases his adrenaline rush. Losing traditional jobs due to his gender identity did not deter Alex from staying true to it. Mayamma or Maya, portrayed by Alex Mathew, is someone who has vicariously lived the lives of greats like Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi, Rekha and Shobana while performing as one of India's first few drag queens. While redefining the meaning of talent, Maya describes what it is like to experience a force pulling you back, and how once you're out of your cage and free, you can go on to fulfil your calling. Unlike traditional performing arts, Drag is often pushed and shunned. Unconventional ideas are often followed by inevitable misconceptions. Maya debunks many such misconceptions associated with this art form through this talk. Most importantly, Alex explains how he uses his talent to empower women, extend his respect, and fight against the atrocities against women and the LGBTQ community. In a world restricted by conventional societal standards, Mayamma or Maya the Drag Queen represents what it means to be true to oneself. One of India's first few drag queens, Maya has broken the box of labels and stereotypes in more ways than one - quintessentially Indian with her Sari and her Malayali lineage, she has blazed a trail for redefining performance art. Portrayed by Alex Mathew, a PR and Marketing Executive at The Lalit Ashok Bangalore, Maya hosts her own talk show on YouTube called Chaya with Maya. An inspiration for aspiring drag artists in India, she is creating her own path and is a strong LGBTQ supporter. The circle of kindness and gratitude | Hussain Dalal | TEDxMICA
    (TEDxTalks, 2019-04-22) Mr. Hussain Dalal
Don’t we all look at the stars on the silver-screen and wonder what their lives are like? We wonder how they made it to the heights of Bollywood and try to put ourselves in their shoes, imagining life as a famous entity. Do we think though, about how they reach there? Did they struggle? Did they face failure? Eminent actor, scriptwriter and dialogue writer Hussain Dalal clears the air about this topic and leaves us all with some invaluable life lessons. He maps out his struggles as a teenager and underlines the gratitude he has for the random acts of kindness he received along the way. Does he have the formula to ride over the challenges that life throws up? Think coffee, and Hussain Dalal comes to mind - Hussain made Ra.. Ra..RRishi, comedy and coffee cool overnight with his Nescafe ad. With a rich stage background, he was one of the mentors in the 5th season of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. After dabbling in stand-up comedy, Hussain Dalal went on to act in films like Greater Elephant, Bring on the Night, Margarita with a Straw, A Gentleman and Pizza. Hussain then built a career in the field of dialogue writing, his maiden venture into writing, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani was a runaway hit. Immensely talented with a gift for hilarious one-liners, more hits followed, namely 2 States, Fanney Khan and more recently, Karwaan. Hussain has an innate and quirky sense of humour and an intuitive understanding of human nature that seems to spill over in his writing. It is hardly surprising that Hussain Dalal is today one of the youngest and brightest stars in the industry and will be back in action with his upcoming films, Brahmastra and Kalank. While the world talks about gender equality, are we making any significant headway towards a world for equal opportunities for both genders? Are our women finding it easier to follow their dreams and do what they like? Are these women empowered enough to take matters into their own hands and revolt when necessary? Hear Priyanka Kochhar tell us about the difficulties a young Indian woman faces in this country, despite being from an affluent and educated family. An illustrious model (she’s featured in popular spreads like Vogue and Elle), Priyanka merged her passion for motorbikes with her likeable personality to build a strong online presence. (TEDxTalks, 2019-04-22) Ms. Tanvie Hans
What is the power of sport? Is it something that teaches us the necessary life skills? Does it teach us how to be a part of a team and work well in a group? Does it teach us to also look outside the sport? Or does it teach us about privilege? Tanvie Hans says it teaches you all of those things and more. Hear about it from Tanvie, the first woman footballer from India to play for the big leagues in England and also the first Indian woman to captain a men’s team in a predominantly men’s league. We follow her journey through football from when she was an 8-year-old child, playing in school, to playing for teams like Tottenham Hotspurs and Fulham in England and finally to now, where she is striving to empower women and young girls through football. Ingredients from my life | Sabyasachi Gorai | TEDxMICA
    (TEDxTalks, 2019-04-22) Mr. Sabyasachi Gorai
Who is an artist? Is it the painter who uses her brush to weave stories? Or is it a writer, using his pen to create intricate worlds? What is art then? What is the qualifier that judges art? Can you play around with art, merge it and recreate it in multiple fields? As a young boy from Asansol in West Bengal, Sabyasachi Gorai would have a tough time concentrating on his studies and quickly learned that textbook learning would not be something that he would excel in. He focussed instead on art and food and thus started his rich, vivid journey from a young boy in a small town in West Bengal to becoming a world-class chef. His secret? He drew from all his cultural experiences through the years and celebrated it through his preferred art form – food. He shares his learnings here, talking about how he brought back long forgotten ingredients from small villages and continues to promote sustainable food – a concept about preserving tradition and culture through food. After all, food that has a story always sells better. The Chef with the Midas touch! Chef Saby is the only recipient of the most coveted National Tourism Award, for “Best Chef of India” awarded by the President of India. He quit his high flying job as Culinary Director of Olive Bar and Kitchen in 2012 and started his culinary academy to nurture and mentor young Chefs. He has headed, launched and set up many award winning restaurants such as Lavaash by Saby, Byg Brewski, Bob's Bar & Mineority by Saby. Imagine if we couldn't imagine | Kunal Arora | TEDxMICA
(TEDx Talks, 2016-03-18) Mr. Kunal Arora
A twenty-something co-Founder of the Education Tree, Kunal Arora, talks about our long-lost conjoint twin - Imagination. He believes that our generation is at the cusp of an Imagination Deficit, an era of the "Copy-Paste". Really? Why don't you Google it? He is the Co-founder of the Education Tree, who uses small yet meaningful ways to impart education with the help of unique art forms such as freeze mobs, flash mobs, graffiti, chalk art, street dancing, street plays etc. Kunal Arora and 3 of his friends started TET to remove the cracks in the education process and ensure a good, meaningful learning for all. They are currently working in universities across Delhi and plan to take up school initiatives as well. TET is also working towards Women Safety. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
