Abstract
As a part of our rural immersion program, we were assigned to go to the Dahod district in Gujarat to observe and understand the work that is being done by UNICEF in partnership with AMUL and Government of Gujarat to eradicate malnutrition and spread awareness about complementary feeding in that area. The research topic assigned to us was "Finding out the barriers in consumption of the take home ration and understanding the inhibitions around Complementary feeding" Along with the task of talking to various stakeholders and creating video case studies, we were also asked to study and explore the opportunities that could be harnessed utilising the penetration of mobile phones and internet in the rural areas of the Dahod district and develop communication around it. In order to efficiently reach out to people and remove all the inhibitions involved, transforming this whole process from a push based approach to a pull strategy. Because when people become aware about the government initiative and ways in which THR can help them, ways in which it could help in keeping them, their baby and adolescent girls to fight malnutrition and lead a healthy life, ways in which they could prepare dishes out of the Baalshakti, Maatrshakti and Poornashakti, keeping the taste intact at the same time. They would reach out to the Aanganwadi and ask for these rather than Aanganwadi’s reaching out to people and urging them to include the THR’s in their daily life. We started our research by having conversations with local
people, interviewing the Anganwaadi and sahayika and them ended with interviews and FGD’s with local village populations and kids from government schools.
